Flying at constant speed, an airplane of type I (plane I) covers a certain distance between two points in 15 hours. An airplane of type II (plane II) covers the same distance in 10 hours. If plane I makes a landing after flying for 9 hours along the route, how many hours will it take plane II to complete the remainder of the route between the landing point of plane I and the destination?

Instead of thinking in terms of Time and Speed, think of it as a problem related to work
Work done by Plane I in 1 hour = \(\frac{1}{15}\)
Work done by Plane II in 1 hour = \(\frac{1}{10}\)
Work done by Plane I in 9 hours = \(\frac{9}{15}\)
Remaining work = \(1 - \frac{9}{15} = \frac{6}{15} = \frac{2}{5}\)
For Plane II:
\(\frac{1}{10}\) of the work takes 1 hour
\(\frac{2}{5}\)th of the work will take = \(\frac{\frac{2}{5} \space * \space 1}{\frac{1}{10}}= \frac{2 \space * \space 10}{5}= 4\) hours

Assume distance to be 30miles.
P1's speed is 2mph & P2's speed is 3mph. P2 flies faster by 1mph.
Distance covered by P1 before landing
9x3 = 18miles.
Balance remaining = 12miles
Time taken by P2 to cover the rest : 12/3 = 4hrs.
Answer E.
