It's not a terribly interesting question, but to avoid the calculation, I'd notice that 64% of 48,000 is less than 64% of 50,000, which is 32,000, so E can't be right. The answer is clearly larger than 50% of 48,000, which is 24,000, so C or D must be right. And the answer must be divisible by 3, because 48,000 is divisible by 3, so, summing digits, the only possible answer is D.
