–36, –30, –24, –18, . . .

In the sequence above, each term is 6 greater than the previous term. Which of the following could NOT be a term in the sequence?

A. –492
B. 256
C. 344
D. 510
E. 678

Hi Bunuel, you might want to change 1 of the options between B and C. Correct me if i'm wrong please

The terms of the sequence are all divisible by 6 (divisibility test is that it should be even and sum of digits should be 3)

Check the answer options for the value which is not divisible by 6

Option A: -492: Last digit is is even and sum of digits = 4 + 9 + 2 = 15, which is divisible by 3.

Option B: 256 is even and sum of digits = 2 + 5 + 6 = 13, which is not divisible by 3.

Option C: 344 is even and sum of digits = 3 + 4 + 4 = 13, which is not divisible by 3.

Option D: 510 is even and sum of digits = 5 + 1 + 0 = 6, which is divisible by 3.

Option E: 678 is even and sum of digits = 6 + 7 + 8 = 21, which is divisible by 3.

We are getting both B and C as the answers

Arun Kumar

Target which number in sequence is not part of sequence which has terms with spread with difference of 6
Observing the sequence we can say that all terms are factors of 6 except 344.

Option C is correct
