The following figure shows concentric circles. What is the area of the shaded region?

Lets consider larger circle as X and smaller circle as Y and shaded circle as N

Smaller Circle:
Diameter = 6 , so we know radius=3, area = \(\pi r^2 \) = \(9 \pi\)

Larger Circle:
Diameter = 6+2+2 = 10 (we need to calculate 2 on both the sides)
Radius = 5
Area = \(\pi r^2\) = \(\pi 5^2\) = \(25\pi\)

Area of shaded region = Area of larger circle - Area of smaller circle = \(25\pi\) - \(9 \pi\) = \(16 \pi\)

Ans: D
