Given: There are two sections A and B of a class, consisting of 36 and 44 students’ respectively.
Asked: If the average weight of section A is 40kg and that of section B is 35kg, find the average weight of the whole class.
Total weight = 36*40 + 44*35 = 1440 + 1540 = 2980 kg
Total students = 36 + 44 = 80
Average weight = 2980 /80 = 37.25 kg

I first reduced the ratio of A:B from 36:44 to 9:11
This is a weighted average problem.
(9/20)(40) + (11/20)(35) = Average
18 + 19.25 = 37.25
Answer C
