If f(x) = x + 3, then the line shown in the xy-plane above is the graph of

(A) f(x)
(B) f(x – 6)
(C) f(x + 6)
(D) f(x + 3)
(E) f(x – 3)

Alternate soln.:

It can clearly been seen that the given line in the figure is the line y=x , i.e. x=y along points on the line. We just have to find the function that gives this equation.

f(x)= x+3 (given)
Then f(x – 3)= x-3+3
->y=x this is the equation we were looking for.

Hence option E
