Black pieces = \(42*\frac{1}{3}=14\).

White pieces= \(42*\frac{1}{6}=7\).

Brown pieces= \(42-14-7=21\).

Therefore, the OA is C.

Of 42 horses in a stable, 1/3 are black and 1/6 are white. The rest are brown. What is the number of brown horses?

(A) 7
(B) 14
(C) 21
(D)28
(E) 35
Solution:

We see that 42 x 1/3 = 14 are black horses and 42 x 1/6 = 7 are white horses. Since the rest are brown horses, there are 42 - 14 - 7 = 21 brown horses.

Answer: C
