The probability of getting number 1-6 when thrown thrice = 6^3 = 216
The probability of getting sum smaller than or equal to 4 = 4
(1,1,1) (2,1,1) (1,2,1) (1,1,2)
So the probability of getting sum greater than 4 = 216-4/216
=> 212/216
=> 53/54
Answer is D

Given
In this question, we are given that
- • A dice is thrown thrice
To find
We need to determine
- • The probability of getting a sum greater than 4
Approach and Working out
The dice is thrown thrice, hence, there will be three outcomes in total
- • P (sum greater than 4) = 1 – P (sum equal to 4) – P (sum less than 4)
We can get the sum equal to 4 when one outcome is 2 and the other two outcomes are 1 each
- • Number of ways we can get the sum equal to 4 = 3!/2! = 3
- • Number of ways we can get the sum less than 4 = 3!/3! = 1
Also, total possible number of outcomes, when the dice is thrown thrice = 6 * 6 * 6 = 216
- • Hence, P (sum greater than 4) = 1 – 3/216 – 1/216 = 212/216 = 53/54
Thus, option D is the correct answer.
