You can solve it by using the average formula.
The statement says that the new average (when the teacher is included) is 10 years old. You also have the average of 28 students. What you need to find is the teacher´s age, that is the only thing you don´t know.
Let´s represent the teacher´s age by the letter t. You know that there are 28 students, so when adding the teacher to the equation, you need to divide everything by 29, that is the new total of people. Remember that 9 years old is the average without considering the teacher, so you will need to multiply it by 28.
10 = (28x9 + t)/ 29
When you solve it, the answer is 38 years old.
