The train spends 3.5 sec (5.5 sec-2 sec) to travel 70 m. It's speed is 70m/3.5sec=20 m/sec= 72 km/h.

Option A.

I got this question wrong because of the phrasing. "...but the man himself..." made me believe that the man himself was able to cross the bridge (70m) in 2 seconds. Although i recognize this seems illogical due to the fact that the man is not faster than the train, it's unclear that the question was saying that the train then passed in the man in 2 seconds. It may help to adjust the phrasing to something like "...but passes the man in 2 seconds..."

elgunp I'm confused by the math. Why does the train take 3.5 seconds to travel the 70m bridge? Drawing it out it seems like it is this:

Start ------------Man (2 seconds, X m)------------------------------------------------------End(5.5seconds, 70m)

So it takes 5.5 seconds to cross 70m, but 2 seconds to cross x meters, yes? It takes 3.5 seconds to cross 70 - x meters?
