In how many ways can three jobs I, II and III be assigned to three persons A, B and C, if one person is assigned only one job and all are capable of doing each job?


A. 3
B. 4
C. 6
D. 12
E. 24

The word "assigned" indicates that this is a counting principle question. There's no indication of selecting or ordering, so it's not combinations or permutations.

We can visualize the stem as open slots for each person, in which a job is assigned.

A can be assigned 1 of 3 jobs, consequently B will be assigned 1 of 2 remaining jobs, and C will be assigned the last job. This formulates to:

\(3*2*1=6\) different ways the jobs could be assigned. Thus, answer is C.
