Stella has some coins. She can bundle the coins equally into 6 bags and no leftovers. She can also pack the coins equally into 4 bags and no leftovers. However, when she bundles them into 7 bags, she has one coin left over. What is the least number of coins Stella could have ??

The answer must be divisible by 6 and by 4, so by the LCM of 6 and 4, which is 12. Only A, D or E is possible. But we also need a remainder of 1 when we divide by 7, and of our candidates, answer D, 36, is the only remaining option.
The question should be worded a bit more carefully - for example, when it describes bundling the coins into 7 bags, it needs to say that an equal number of coins is placed in each bag.

Solve incrementally...
She can bundle the coins equally into 6 bags and no leftovers... hmm... 6x
She can also pack the coins equally into 4 bags and no leftovers... hmm... 4y
However, when she bundles them into 7 bags, she has one coin left over... hmm... 7z+1
6x = 4y = 7z+1
The right answer option should be divisible be 1 more than multiple of 7.
Option A, B and E - reject.
Also, the right answer option should be divisible by 6, or 4, or both.
Option C - reject.
Right answer - Option D.
