The average of a set of five values is 12

Sum = Average * Number of Values
=> Sum of these 5 numbers, \(S_5\) = 12*5 = 60 ...(1)

If one number is deleted, the average of the set is increased by 0.6

Let the deleted number be x and sum of remaining 4 numbers is \(S_4\)
=> \(S_4 \)= (Old Average + 0.6)*4 = (12+0.6)*4 = 50.4

From (1)
\(S_5\) = 60
\(S_5 \)= \(S_4\) + x = 50.4 + x = 60
=> x = 60 - 50.4 = 9.6

So, Answer will be D
Hope it helps!
