In a class having 60% girls, 40% of the students qualified in a test. If 50% of the girls qualified, find the number of boys who did not qualify in the test as a percentage of the total strength of the class?

(A) 10%
(B) 30%
(C) 45%
(D) 55%
(E) 90%

Let the number of students = 10
Number of girls = 6 and the number of boys = 4
Number of girls who qualified = 6/2 = 3
Number of students who qualified = 40% of 10 = 4
=> Number of boys who qualified = 3 - 2 = 1
=> Number of boys who did not qualify = 4 - 1 = 3
Required percent = 3/10 * 100 = 30%
