The average monthly expenditure of a family for the first four months is $2750, for the next three months is $2940, and for the last five months $3130. If the family saves $5330 throughout year, find the average monthly income of the family for that year.

(A) $4200
(B) $3800
(C) $3500
(D) $3400
(E) $3200

The total income =4*2750 +3*2940 +5*3130
=>11000 +8820 +15550 +savings
=>40800

for average monthly income we divide by 12 and we get
=>3400

Therefore IMO D

Faster way of doing this question would be to approximate and avoid lengthly calculations.

The per month averages are 2750, 2940, and 3130

Since the total savings is 5330 ----> the per month value would be ~440

Since the per month averages are 2750, 2940, and 3130, the overall average would be something close to ~2900
If you add 440 to 2900 it would be close to ~3400 hence answer D
