covered=3*remaining + 5
covered + remaining =29
=> covered = 29-remaining

so, 29-remaining = 3*remaining+5
=> 24 = 4*remaining
=>remaining =6
covered = 29-6 = 24

Hey!
Could you please explain the part written after"so" in the 2nd para? Why did you multiply the right side "remaining" with 2? Wasn't it supposed to be multiplied by 3[as written in the first line]?

My answer is 23(D).

Let the remaining distance equal: \( x\)
Before his meal he covers: \(3x + 5\)
His total trip = \(29 \)

Solving for x: \(3x + 5 + x = 29\)
\(4x = 24\)
\(x = 6\)

Plugging 6 back into \(3x + 5\):
\(3(6) + 5\)
\(23\)
