jahnvisangal : Range is the difference between the highest and lowest values of a set. If all the elements of a set are same, then the range is Zero.

In this question we are given the ages of 5 females and 3 males but we don't know the highest or lowest values.

Knowing just the range is not enough always. e.g. If a set contains two Integers {A, 10} and the range is 4, it is possible that A = 6 or A =14. To specifically say the value of A we need some more information. (Let's say we are told another set consists of only positive integers {3, A} and has range 3. Now we are sure that A=6, because A cannot be 0 or 14).
Hope this helps !
