Let me walk you through this step by step.

The agency has two pricing plans:

Plan 1 (8 hours or less): You pay the GREATER of RS.100/hour OR RS.8/km.
Plan 2 (More than 8 hours): You pay the GREATER of RS.80/hour OR RS.6/km.

We know: 120 km driven, RS.800 paid.

Step 1: Test Plan 1 (8 hours or less)

The km-based charge would be: 8 × 120 = RS.960.
Since the rule says 'whichever is MORE,' the bill would be at least RS.960.
But the company only paid RS.800, which is less than RS.960.
So Plan 1 is IMPOSSIBLE.

Step 2: Test Plan 2 (More than 8 hours)

The km-based charge would be: 6 × 120 = RS.720.
The hour-based charge would be: 80 × hours.
Again, the company pays whichever is MORE.

Since they paid RS.800, and RS.800 > RS.720, the hour-based charge must be the one that applied.

So: 80 × hours = 800
hours = 800 ÷ 80 = 10

Quick check: Is 10 greater than 8? Yes, so Plan 2 applies correctly.
Is max(800, 720) = 800? Yes, matches the amount paid.

Answer: C10 hours.

Key principle: When a problem says 'whichever is more,' both conditions must be checked, and the larger value determines the bill. Use the given payment amount to rule out one plan entirely, then solve with the other.

Two conditions to check:
<=8hrs or >=8hrs
Use the options and check:
Firstly 800/8=100 fitting first option BUT 120*8>800 hence the truck is taking >=8hrs.
Check for 10 now:
800/10 = 80 fits the second case. 120*6=720<800 also fits.

Answer: Option C

A truck rental agency has the following terms. If a truck is rented for 8 hours or less the charge is RS.100 per hour or RS.8 per km whichever is more. On the other hand , if the truck is rented for more than 8 hours, the charge is RS.80 per hour or RS.6 per km whichever is more. A company rented a truck from the agency, and used it for 120 km and paid RS.800. For how many hours did the company rent the truck?

A. 6
B. 8
C. 10
D. 12
E. 14
