Wow, I certainly misread that question!! 
I first read it as "What is the value of x?"

Take 2|2–x| = 5
Divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get: |2 - x| = 2.5
This means that either 2 - x = 2.5, or 2 - x = -2.5
 
If 2 - x = 2.5, then x =  -0.5 
If 2 - x = -2.5, then x =  4.5

So the sum of the solutions = ( -0.5 ) +  4.5  =  4

Answer: D

2 *   = 5

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

= 2.5

Translation: “on the number line, The distanced from X to +2 is exactly 2.5 units in both directions.”

X = 4.5

Or

X = -0.5

Sum of all the possible values of X:

(4.5) + (-0.5) = 4

|2-x| = 2.5 => Distance between x and 2 = 2.5
