George went to a fruit market with certain amount of money. With this money he can buy either 50 oranges or 40 mangoes. He retains 10% of the money for taxi fare and buys 20 mangoes. How many oranges can he buy?

50 oranges= 40 mangoes = Total
Now 10% of 40 mangoes = 4 mangoes = Taxi Fare
Let say he could by X oranges
20 mangoes + Taxi Fare + X oranges = Total
20 mangoes + 4 mangoes + X oranges = 40 mangoes
=> X oranges = 16 mangoes
We know
1 mango = 50 oranges / 40 mangoes
Hence, 16 mangoes = 16 x 50 /40 oranges = 20 oranges
Option C

Breaking Down the Info:
With the same money, we can buy 50 oranges or 40 mangoes. This means \(50 \text{ oranges} = 40 \text{ mangoes}\).
We take away 10% of the money (and goods), so we could buy only 36 mangoes or 45 oranges.
Using the conversion we have, \(20 \text{ mangoes} * \frac{50 \text{ oranges}}{40 \text{ mangoes}} = 25 \text{ oranges}\).
Hence we can treat this as he purchased 25 oranges instead, then he can purchase 45 - 25 = 20 oranges with the rest of his money.
Answer: C
