Given: A swimming pool measuring 40 metres by 50 metres is to be surrounded by a flagstone walkway 5 metres wide.

Asked: If each stone is rectangular and has dimensions 2 metres by 1 metre, how many stones will be needed to cover the walkway?

Area of the walkway = 50*60 - 40*50 = 1000 sq mt
Area of stone = 2*1 = 2

Number of stones required to cover the walkway = 1000/2 = 500
