Lets say A scores x less than 125 (passing marks) Hence A's score = 125 - x
B's score = 125 + 5x
C's score = 125 + 5x + (5x - (-x)) = 125 + 11x
=> 125 + 11x = (72/100) x 250
=> 11x = 55
=> x = 5
Now B's score = 125 + 5x = 125 + 25 = 150
Option B
Lets say A scores x less than 125 (passing marks) Hence A's score = 125 - x
B's score = 125 + 5x
C's score = 125 + 5x + (5x - (-x)) = 125 + 11x
=> 125 + 11x = (72/100) x 250
=> 11x = 55
=> x = 5
Now B's score = 125 + 5x = 125 + 25 = 150

Solution:
Total marks \(= 250\). Passing marks \(= 50\)% of \(250 = 125\).
"B passes the exam by five times the number of marks by which A fails" means \((B-125)=5(125-A)\)
\(⇒ 5A+B=750...(i)\)
"C scores as many marks more than B as B does more than A" means \(C-B=B-A\)
\(⇒ C+A=2B\)
"C scores 72% marks" means \(C=72\)% of \(250=180\) or \(C=180\)
Equation \(⇒ C+A=2B\) will become \(A-2B=-180....(ii)\)
Multiplying eq(ii) with 5, we get \(5A-10B=-900.....(iii)\)
Subtracting equation \(iii\) from \(i\), we get:
\(5A+B-5A+10B=750+900\)
\(⇒11B=1650\)
\(⇒B=150\)
Hence the right answer is Option B.
