In Gotham City, revenue from tourism was 20 percent of the city's total revenue last year; the remaining $600,000 in revenue was generated from manufacturing. If tourism revenue declined 60 percent this year and manufacturing revenue increased 150 percent this year, revenue from tourism is what percent of the revenue from manufacturing this year?

(A) 4 percent
(B) 6 percent
(C) 20 percent
(D) 25 percent
(E) 40 percent

Last year if \(80\% = 600,000 \) ( Mfg.) then \(20\% = 150,000\) (Tourism)

This year Tourism = \(.40*150,000= 60,000\)

This year Manufacturing= \(2.50* 600,000= 15,00,000\)

Total this year \(=15,60,000\)

Required percentage:\( \frac{60,000}{15,60,000}* 100 = \frac{100}{26} \approx 4\)

Ans A

Hope it's clear

Hey base should be manufacturing not total

Posted from my mobile device

Right , noticed it while reviewing the post. Corrected the same. Thank you.

Hi, what did you use to determine that it was 150% more than last year? I feel that the wording of the question didn't imply this.

If tourism revenue declined 60 percent this year and manufacturing revenue increased 150 percent this year, revenue from tourism is what percent of the revenue from manufacturing this year?

Revenue = Tourism + Manufacture
Tourism = 20/100*R or R/5
Manufacture = 80/5R or 4r/5
Manu = 600,000
600,000=4R/5
R=600,000*5/4=750,000

tourism (PY) = 1/5*750,000= 150,000
Tourism (CY) = 150,000(1-0.6) = 150,000*0.4= 60,000

Manu (PY) = 600,000
Manu (CY) = 600,000(1+1.5) = 600,000(250/100)
= 6000*250=1,500,000

60,000/1,500,000*100 = 4%
