Try substituting 7 and 8 for a. It won’t work. The first answer is the correct approach

Suriya28
We can directly answer the question, as the required value a is the mean and median of the seven-numbered set. It can take up values between 7 and 9, considering distinct numbers, the number of values is 2(ie 8 and 9).

As per above explanation, A can only take one value 26 such that median = mean. Where are we getting the second value from?

sum of 0+1+6+9+10+11 = 37
37+A / 7 = 9 = Median

A= 26

As per above explanation, A can only take one value 26 such that median = mean. Where are we getting the second value from?

sum of 0+1+6+9+10+11 = 37
37+A / 7 = 9 = Median

A= 26
When we consider the mean to be 6, we get -> 6*7 = 42 = 37+a -> a=5.

then the set would be [0,1,5,6,9,10,11] and 6 is indeed the median and mean, so we have two possibilities, for the mean to be 6 & 9

hope it helps!
