8-x =x(x+1) = x^2 + x
x^2 + 2x - 8 = 0

\(8-x = x*(x+1)\)
\(8-x = x^2+x\)
\(x^2+2x = 8\)
Therefore, \(x^2+2x-3 = 8-3 = 5\) option D.
