This is the official description given by Manhattan Prep:

Define variables:
r = retail value
p = purchase price
s = selling price ($9600)

s = p + 0.5p = 1.5p
9600 = 1.5p
6400 = p

Next,

p = r - 0.2r = 0.8r
6400 = 0.8r
8000 = r

The correct answer is C.

However, I am having trouble seeing why the revenue would not equal in the initial set up:

$9600 = 1.5p - p

Because he sold at 50% above what he bought at ie \(1.5 *0.8p\)
