Deconstructing the Question
Initial ratio (Local : International) is \(5:2\).
Amy makes 3 more international calls (local stays the same).
New ratio becomes \(5:3\).
Find the total number of local calls.
Step-by-step
Let Local = \(5k\) and International = \(2k\).
After 3 more international calls:
Local = \(5k\)
International = \(2k+3\)
New ratio is \(5:3\).
So if Local = \(5k\), then International must be \(3k\).
Set them equal:
\(2k+3=3k \Rightarrow k=3\)
Local calls:
\(5k=5\cdot 3=15\)
Answer: 15
