There are 500 rooms in a multi-floored hotel. However, due to a change in rule, the hotel has to decrease the number of floors by 5. However, the management is able to put 5 more rooms in each floor. Over all, the number of rooms in the hotel decreases by 10%. What was the original number of floors in the the hotel ?

A. 10 floors
B. 20 floors
C. 30 floors
D. 40 floors
E. 50 floors
\(r*f = 500\)

\((r + 5)(f - 5) = 450\)

Or, \(fr + 5f - 5r - 25 = 450\)

Or, \(500 + 5f - 5r - 25 = 475\)

Or, \(25 = 5r - 5f\)

So, \(r - f = 5\)

Now, check using options -

(A) If \(r = 10\) , \(f = 15\) & \(rf = 150\) Not possible....
(B) If \(r = 20\) , \(f = 25\) & \(rf = 500\) Possible, just quickly check other options to confirm
(C) If \(r = 30\) , \(f = 35\) & \(rf = > 900\) as 30*30 = 90
(D) & (E) must also be rejected as Square of those nos is > 500, Hence Answer must be (B)
