Given: Ten contestants including two friends Mark and Andrew took part in a skiing competition. First five contestants would receive an IKEA gift voucher worth $250.

Asked: Find the probability that Mark will win an IKEA gift voucher but Andrew will not.

Total ways to select 5 winners = 10C5 = 252

If Mark receives the voucher and Andrew does not , then we have to select 4 contestants out of remaining 10-2=8 contestants

Ways in which Mark will win an IKEA gift voucher but Andrew will not. = 8C4 = 70

The probability that Mark will win an IKEA gift voucher but Andrew will not = 8C4 /10C5 = 70/252 = 5/18
