Let’s make an equation for the 1st part of the sentence
A+B+C/3 =42
We made this equation by knowing the formula to finding The mean SUM OF TERMS/NUMBER OF TERMS = MEAN
We can make a second equation for the second part of the sentence
X+Y+Z+E+D/5 = 38
Now let’s find the sum for how much he scored against Team B and A
A+B+C/3 = 42
Multiply both sides by 3
A+B+C = 126
X+Y+Z+E+D/5 = 38
Multiply both sides by 5
X+Y+Z+E+D = 190
Now let’s make an equation for the average throughout the 8 matches
X+Y+Z+E+D+A+B+C/8
Let’s substitute
190+126/8 = 316/8=39.5
Hence,
Answer = C = 39.5
