(A) 48%
(B) 52%
(C) 56%
(D) 60%
(E) 68%
\(-20-40+\frac{(-20)(-40)}{100}=-60+8 = 52\), Answer will be (B)
Hi Abhishek,

I really like the solution you've used, can you please explain the method a little further?

Suppose an item cost $100 first we get a discount of 20% which will lower the price of the item to $80 i.e. $20 discount and then we get additional 40% discount on $80 which will give us a further discount of $32 that gets us in total a discount of 20 + 32 = $52. For 100 dollars getting a discount of 52 dollars means total discount of 52% received.
