At a store where peanuts and raisins are sold in bulk, each for a fixed price per pound, the total price of 1/4 pound of peanuts and 3/4 pound of raisins is $3.00, and the total price of 1/2 pounds of peanuts and 1/2 pounds of raisins is $3.20. What is the price of 1 pound of raisins at this store?

A. $2.80
B. $2.60
C. $2.50
D. $1.60
E. $1.50

The total price of 1/4 pound of peanuts and 3/4 pound of raisins is $3.00:

p/4 + 3r/4 = 3
The total price of 1/2 pounds of peanuts and 1/2 pounds of raisins is $3.20:

p/2 + r/2 = 3.2
Multiply the second equation by 1/2 to get p/4 + r/4 = 1.6 an dsubtract this from the first equation to get:

2r/4 = 1.4

r = 2.8.
Answer: A.

P.S. Can you please share the source of the question. Thank you!
