but here first work with y^x because it has given -ve value and from there it will help us identifying which one is possitive and which one is negative.

y^x = -1/64 = - 64 ^(-1) 
but 64 = 2^6 or 4^3 
here given is '-64' = hence it is in (-4)^3 form
Therefore -1/64 = (-4)^(-3)
Hence x = -3 and y = -4
also to validate lets put these values in x^y and check and we are getting same value 1/81 which is given in the question.
Therefore xy = -3 *-4 = 12.
