A very easy way to do this is by assuming, for example, that x=10.
In 2001 x grows by 150%, so 10 + 10*(150/100) = 10 + 10*1.5 = 10 + 15 = 25
in 2002 x grows by 400%, so 10 + 10*(400/100) = 10 + 10*4 = 10 + 40 = 50

We can clearly see that bananas went from 25 in 2001 to 50 in 2002: a 100% increase!
