We are told that the money paid by School A is $6720

Base fee + 12% on the base fee = 6720
Base fee(1+ 12/100) = 6720
Base fee = 6720/112 *100
= 6000

Base fee is same for both School A and B.
School B has an additional 8% on the base fee.
Hence, School B's fee would be : Base fee (1+ 8/100)

= 6000 (1+ 8/100)
= 6480

Differnce b/w school A and School B fees = 6720-6480 i.e 240

B is the correct answer
Or you could simply just take the difference 12-8 which is 4%
So 4% of 6000 is 240

Hope it helps!

x + 12%x = 6720
x + 8%x = ?

x = 6720/1.12

x+8%x = 1.08*6720/1.12

= 6480
The student can save 6720 - 6480 = 240

Schools A and B are in the same town. Annual fee collected by school A from each student is $6720 which is comprised of basic fee and an additional maintenance fee which is 12% of the basic fee. School B has the same basic fee as school A but its maintenance charge is just 8% of the basic fee. A student studying in school B can save how much more as compared with a student from school A?

A. $120
B. $240
C. $360
D. $540
E. $720
