Sorry, I am a bit confused about how the "remaining 20" are not considered to have gotten the answer wrong. If the text is telling us "30 (3/5) students got it right", are we assuming that 3/5 is "at least"?

Total 50 students. 3/5 of 50 is 30 who answered correctly the first one. 4/5 of the remaining 20 is 16 answered the second one correctly. Implies 46 of them have answered at least one of the two correctly. Implies 4 did not answer the questions correctly.

Sorry, I am a bit confused about how the "remaining 20" are not considered to have gotten the answer wrong. If the text is telling us "30 (3/5) students got it right", are we assuming that 3/5 is "at least"?

In an engineering class that contained 50 students, the final exam consisted of 2 questions. Three fifths of the students answered the first question correctly. If four fifths of the remainder answered the second question correctly, how many students answered both questions incorrectly?

A. 4
B. 6
C. 10
D. 12
E. 24

3/5 of 50 students answered question 1 correctly, so 2/5 answered question 1 incorrectly.

Question 1 incorrect: 2/5 * 50 = 20 students.

4/5 of those 20 answered question 2 correctly, so 1/5 of those 20 answered question 2 incorrectly.

Both incorrect: 1/5 * 20 = 4 students.

Answer: A.

Hope it helps.
