In a quiz game, easy questions are worth 3 points and hard questions are worth 5 points when answered correctly. Bridget has scored a total of x points by answering y questions correctly in total. Which of the following expressions is equivalent to the number of easy questions which Bridget has answered correctly?

a. M(R−P)P−B\frac{M(R - P)}{P - B}P−BM(R−P)
b. RM+BM\frac{RM + B}{M}MRM+B
c. M(R−P)−BM(R - P) - BM(R−P)−B
d. P−RM−B\frac{P - R}{M} - BMP−R−B
e. M(R−P)+BP\frac{M(R - P) + B}{P}PM(R−P)+B

Please fix the formatting or provide a screenshot and I’ll fix it for you.

Hi, there's something missing in this question. What do M, P, R, and B stand for?

Suri buys both red and blue paint. The red paint costs R dollars per gallon, and the blue paint cost B dollars per gallon. If the average cost per gallon of all the paint Suri bought was P, and the volume of red paint in gallons she bought was M, what was the amount of blue paint Suri bought in gallons in terms of R, B, P and M?

A. \(\frac{M(R-P)}{P-B}\)

B. \(\frac{RM+B}{M}\)

C. \(M(R-P)-B\)

D. \(\frac{P-R}{M}-B\)

E. \(\frac{M(R-P)+B}{P}\)

This can be done easily with weighted averages.

Red - R $/g
Blue - B $/g
Red quantity - M
Blue quantity - Y (my answer and variable)

With weighted averages:
R-------P--------B

M*(P-R)=Y*(B-P)
Y= M (P-R)/(B-P) = M ( R - P )/( P - B )

IMO A
