net time it takes with leak = 80+40 = 120 hours

Another way of doing this one:
D and E can be ruled since higher than the filling up rate (e.g. the tank would never be filled!)
For the remaining A, B, C we could try B = 3. In that case we'd have a total rate of 5 -3 = 2 litres / h which would take 100h to fill. But it takes 120 so the leak must be greater, meaning the only possible option is C
