Let’s consider the amount invested as the LCM of the denominator values.
1/2 of her savings on 4% simple interest, 1/3rd of her savings on 6% simple interest, and the remaining part of her savings on 8% simple interest.
Remaining = 1 - [(1/2) + (1/3) ]
= 1 - (5/6)
= (1/6)
LCM of (2,3,6) = 6
lets take the amount invested by Renee as a multiple of 6 = 6000
1/2 the amount is invested at 4% simple interest for 2 years.
= (1/2)*6000*(4%)*2
= 3000* (4 %) * 2
= 240
1/3 of the amount is invested at 6% simple interest for 2 years.
= (1/3)*6000*(6%)*2
= 2000*6%*2
= 240
1/6 of the amount is invested at 8% simple interest for 2 years.
= (1/6)*6000*8%*2
= 80*2
= 160
Total Interest Earned = 240+240+160 = 640
Total Interest Earned : Total Principal Invested
= 640 : 6000
= 64 : 600
= 8 : 75
