Why do you divide the amount of workers by their gender?
Shouldn't it be that 5(12M + 16F) = 4(13M + 23F)?

This way the answer turns out to be 3F = 2M, making the supposed correct answer 2:3 (D)

In a factory, different groups of workers perform different types of work. One group manufactures the items, the second group packs the manufactured items, and the third group loads the packed cartons into the vans. The head of the factory compares the work done by a male and a female in the first group. If 12 males and 16 females can manufacture a certain number of items in 5 days, and 13 males and 24 females can manufacture the same number of items in one less day than the days taken by 12 males and 16 females, then compare the daily work done by a male with that done by a female.

A. 3 : 4
B. 4 : 3
C. 1 : 2
D. 2 : 3
E. 2 : 1

Let the daily work of one male be m units and that of one female be f units.

Same total work is done in both cases (in 5 and 4 days respectively):

5(12m + 16f) = 4(13m + 24f)
60m + 80f = 52m + 96f
m = 2f

Which means:
male : female = 2 : 1

Answer: E.

Hope it helps.
