First 3 mins = 50 cents.

For the next 15 mins, for every 5 mins, we are charged 20 cents.

15 mins = (3*5mins). So, the charge is (3*20 cents) = 60 cents.

For the next duration, he is charged 2 cents per minute.

He spoke for 50 mins. The time taken earlier = 3+15 = 18 mins.

Remaining time = 50 - 18 = 32 mins.

2 cents per minute. Therefore, for 32 mins, we get (32*2)=64 cents.

Total charge = 50+20+20+20+64 = 174 cents = $1.74
