If Jeannette buys a television online the purchase price will be 10% lower than the suggested retail price but she will have to pay a 2% tax on the purchase price. If she buys the television at the nearest Media Hut store, she will pay the suggested retail price but no tax and thus will pay $260.70 more than she would pay online.

What is the suggested retail price of the television?

Suggested retail price: P

P = (0.9P × 1.02) + 260.70

P = 0.918P + 260.70

0.082P = 260.70

41P = 130,350

P = 3,1xx

A. $2,900
B. $3,000
C. $3,060
D. $3,180
E. $3,260

Correct answer D
