Pete’s monthly remuneration includes a fixed salary and fixed commission per machine sold. This commission reduces by $x per consignment after the first 100 and by another $x after the first 200 consignments. In January, the remuneration was $4,000 on the sale of 50 consignments; in February, the remuneration was $6,000 on the sale of 100 consignments; in March, the remuneration was $9,000 on the sale of 200 consignments. If in April, Jack sold 300 consignments, what shall be his remuneration?

let a be fixed income and b be the commission per machine sold.
Given,
i) 4000 = a+50b
ii) 6000 = a+100b ..... these both gives us 2000=50b or b=40
iii) 9000 = a +100b + 100(b-x)
from ii) and iii) we get 3000=100(b-x) -> b-x=30 or x=10
Question wants to find a +100b + 100(b-x) + 100 (b-x-x) = 9000 + 100(30-10-10) = 11000.

Given,

Is it just me who finds that the story is ambiguous about whether the commission steps (100, 200, 300) are counted per month or cumulatively over time?
