I think in order to save time here, we don't need to find initial number of adults.
We are already given that ratio became 1:2 when first set of 50 people came. And we are also given that second set of 50 people had the same number of children as the 1st set. That's where we start.

Let the number of children in each set be x, then number of adults = 50 - x
Thus after 1st group, x children & 2x adult were present.

And after 2nd group arrival, the ratio became 3:4 and the second group added x children and 50-x adults

In other words 3/4 = (x+x)/(2x+50-x) = 2x/(x+50)
Solve for x to get x = 30 => x+50 = 80
