Four men and three women make up a seven-member committee. The committee has one male captain and one female captain. If all seven committee members are seated in a straight row of seven chairs, does at least one man sit next to another man?

(1) No woman sits next to another woman.

(2) The captains sit in the first and seventh chairs.

---------

I thought that the answer is E.

Because (1) could be M W M W M W M but also W M M W M W M

and (2) is insufficient since it could also be either M W M W M W M or for example MMMMWWW.

Where is my fallacy here? Seems like I am overlooking something..

for second statement...both captain sit in first and last chair...but
M W M W M W M===>this you assumed wrong....either one side must be 1 women captain.

hope it helps

Yep, ur right, but what about M W M M M W W ? ok.... got it, there s no way two men are not gonna sit next to each other... :-D thx!

see the question is:
does at least one man sit next to another man

according to 2nd statement:
M - - - - - W===>THIS MUCH IS COMPULSORY..
NOW we are left with 5 places....3 men and 2 women....are left....do whatever...there is always a chance that atleast 1 man has to sit next to other...

see..ex...:
M W M W M M W

HOPE I MADE IT CLEAR.

95% difficulty always makes me more on the edge and I waste 10 minutes each. This is a really straightforward question.

St1 - No women sits next to another

M W M W M W M OR
W M W M W M M

Insufficient

St2 - Captains in the first and 7th

M W M W M M W

No matter how you arrange the 5 individuals in the middle, there will always be at least 1 man next to another man.

Sufficient.

Answer is B.

(1) No woman sits next to another woman.
the possibilities are
1) M,W,M,W,M,W,M-men 2 mwn doesn't sit together
2)W,M,M,W,M,W,M -MEN DOES sit together
Since both the possibilities exist
Clearly insuff

(2) The captains sit in the first and seventh chairs.

M,W,W,M,M,W -POSSIBLITY exist that men sit together

Even when all other possibilities are carried out when the captains are seated towards the end men can definitely sit together
Therefore suff
Hence IMO B
