Each number in the arrangement above is obtained from the two nearest numbers in the column immediately to the left by subtracting the upper number from the lower number. What is the value of z ?

(1) x = 7
(2) t = 5

Solution: z=x-4, also t=8-z

Statement 1: x=7
Thus z=3 - Sufficient

Statement 2: t=5
Thus z=3 - Sufficient

Each statements alone is sufficient. Answer D
