Tom was born on October 28th. On what day of the week was he born?

(1) In the year of Tom’s birth, January 20th was a Sunday.
(2) In the year of Tom’s birth, July 17th was a Wednesday.

I love the intent of this question! However, I believe the answer is E, because there was a time in 1752 when we lost 11 days (more here: https://mentalfloss.com/article/51370/wh ... -days-1752)
Since Tom may or may not have been born in 1752, both statements combined are insufficient :-)

Cheers,
Brent

WOW!! Interesting! If the OA is E then we should know a bit of GK too for GMAT

No, the GMAT wouldn't test that kind of esoteric knowledge.

Very interesting question
Statement 1 tells us that in the year of Tom’s birth, January 20th was a Sunday. But we don't know whether the given year is a leap year or not.(Leap year is a year in which february has 29 days). So Insufficient
Statement 2 tells us in the year of Tom’s birth, July 17th was a Wednesday. This statement is clearly sufficient as we know the exact number of days between july 20th and october 28th and we can calculate the day on 28th of october . So Sufficient

Correct Answer - B
