k will terminate when the denominator of the expression contains only 2's or 5's or both.
 
What value did you assign to x to get to this conclusion?

NOTE: Any fraction whos prime factors in the denom are ONLY 2 and or 5, then it will term. Thus, if there exits any other prime factor in the denom, it wont terminate
