If |b – 1| = 3, what is the value of b?

(1) b is divisible by 2
(2) b is divisible by 4

FROM STATEMENT - I ( INSUFFICIENT )

If b = -2 ; |b – 1| = 3
If b = 4 ; |b – 1| = 3

Thus, we do not have any unique value of b

FROM STATEMENT - II ( SUFFICIENT )

If b = 4 ; |b – 1| = 3

There is only one possible value, ie, b = 4

Thus, Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked, answer will be (B)

My solution :
Case 1: b-1 =3 ; b = 4
Case 2: -(b-1) = -b+1 = 3 ; b = -2
Statement 1:
b/2
4/2 Yes
-2/2 Yes
Statement 2:
b/4
4/4 Yes
-2/4 NO
So, I chose A
Abhishek can you pls explain what's wrong in my steps?
Am I wrong as b only need one value?
Thanks

2 ways to do absolute value

Pos

b- 1 =3
b= 4

Neg

-l b-1l =3
-b +1 =3
-b =2
b= -2

A

If |b – 1| = 3, what is the value of b?

(1) b is divisible by 2
(2) b is divisible by 4

Sol-
|b – 1| = 3
=> b=4 or b=-2
(1) says b is divisible by 2
4 and -2 both div by 2. hence not suff

(2) says b is divisible by 4
sufficient as 4 is div by 4

Hence (B)
