==> If you modify the original condition and the question and check the question again, you get a<b<0--> 1/a>1/b. In other words, it does not become a<b --> 1/a>1/b.

Therefore, B is the answer.
Answer: B

Can you provide an example.

I took if a=4, b=5, then 1/a=1/4=.25 and 1/b=.2, therefore 1/a>1/b
and statement 2: if b=-2 and a=-3, then 1/a=-.33 and 1/b=-.5, again 1/a>1/b
So answer should be D right?

Thanks.

Hi

For statement I, ans depends on whether they are positive or negative..
Say a and b are positive..a=2, b=3..
Then 1/a=1/2=0.5.....1/b=1/3=0.33.. so 1/a>1/b..

Say one is negative and other positive
Say a=-2, and b =1..
Then 1/a =1/-2=-0.5....1/b=1/1...
Here 1/a<1/b..
Hence different answers possible
Insufficient

I struggled with this a bit, but it makes sense now.

(1) when a < b, both a and b can take positive and negative values, both scenarios 1/a < 1/b or 1/a > 1/b are possible.
(2) since a < b < 0, for all negative values, 1/a > 1/b.

Hence Answer is B.

Maybe I have oversimpliifed the explanation, but if my understanding is wrong, please feel free to correct me.

cheers.
